Newt Gingrich May Prefer Kenyan Socialist Obama To Ron Paul

Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul have made no attempt to hide their personal disgust for one another, increasingly brutal attacks having quickly become the signature of the final days leading up to the Iowa caucuses next Tuesday. But did Newt err this week when he hinted to CNN that he’d prefer Obama win re-election to Ron Paul gaining the White House for the Republicans?

Newt Gingrich has finally found a politician he considers even worse than the president he calls socialist, anti-colonialist and radical. That would be his fellow Republican Ron Paul.

“I think Barack Obama is very destructive to the future of the United States. I think Ron Paul’s views are totally outside the mainstream of virtually every decent American,” Gingrich said Tuesday in a CNN interview with Wolf Blitzer.

Could he vote for Paul? “No.” If it came down to Paul vs. Obama? “You’d have a very hard choice at that point.”

As much as Newt is voicing concern many moderate and establishment Republicans have with the Texan potentially capturing their party’s presidential nomination, it is hard to imagine conservative activists in Sioux City or Des Moines not raising eyebrows at the remark.
